Hayfin interns Q&A: Stephanie Sarpong
Department Area: Partner Solutions
What made you apply for a Hayfin internship?
I applied to the Hayfin internship to explore my interest in investor relations and to determine if it was an area I would enjoy pursuing as a career. The Hayfin internship offered a unique opportunity to get involved with investor relations tasks within a supportive environment designed to help interns truly understand the nature of the work carried out by their assigned teams.
What is your typical day to day?
My day to day is quite varied. For example, on a Monday, there is usually a scheduled ‘Weekly IR’ meeting that I attend and where the team share updates on their current projects and significant developments. If I am already working on something, I may have a check in with my manager later in the day to review progress. Additionally, I could be assigned new tasks by colleagues at any point during the day. Some examples of tasks I undertook included responding to DDQs and RFPs, taking the minutes for meetings, creating and updating investment case study slides and developing an investment fund track record. Most days also featured masterclasses, which provided invaluable insights into the various teams within the business and how they collaborate to achieve shared goals.
Biggest take-away from internship experience?
One of my biggest takeaways from this internship was realising just how fulfilling it is to be part of, and contribute to, a team that is hardworking, extremely friendly and genuinely supportive. Another takeaway was realising how important it is, especially in the early stages of a career, to be able to ask questions without fear of judgement. The Hayfin Partner Solutions team really provided that and not just direct managers or people I worked on a project with, but rather all team members.
